We have 52 students enrolled at our Baptist Theological Seminary in Trujillo, Peru. The students finished this semester online. However, the Covid – 19 shut down of the country caused almost 100% of the students to lose any jobs they had. Most of those jobs are lost forever so they will have to find something else to support themselves. Four of the students have Missions Scholarships from Bethel Baptist Church in Troy, Illinois. Only two students were able to keep their old jobs. The other 46 don’t know what they are going to do for money. The Ministry of Education in Peru suggested that all public education institutions reduce their next semester enrollment fees by 40-50% as a sign of support to struggling students. Our seminary is not certain we fit under that mandate, but we certainly don’t want to draw attention to the fact that a Christian organization was not sensitive to students’ needs. If our seminary reduces our fees as suggested, we would need to come up with about $5,500. Please pray that God will provide the needed funds so that our seminary can offer this reduction. Many students may be forced to drop out of the seminary if we are not able to provide this urgent assistance.  We pray that God will lead you to help keep these seminary students on a path to receiving their formal degrees, that, for some is only a semester away.
